Bread making!

I have been making my own bread for the last two weeks, and I am loving it! :) I am using a recipe that you can find here complete with awesome pictures.

I am soaking the flour overnight to get the most nutrients out of the whole wheat flour, and I really think the soaking gives the bread a really light texture. The soaking is really easy to do, and it takes ten minutes to get the soaking process started.

I have had really good luck with this recipe, and if you decide to try it, halve the recipe if your mixer bowl is less than a 5 quart size. Also, if you are like me, write down the adjusted measurements before you start. I may have screwed up the measurements the first two times because I forgot to halve various measurements. oops!

I have now made eight loaves of this bread, and our family has gone from consuming a loaf every two weeks to eating two loaves a week! It is a bread that works on all sandwiches, and it is heavenly as a snack with some butter, jam, or honey!

YUM!

  3. This is awesome! Go you for having early success with soaking! I've had mixed results with soaking my flour for bread dough--usually I just end up with dense bricks--but I finally found a recipe that works well and yields great soaked sandwich bread.

I just sprouted some wheat berries too and am looking to bake another batch with that as soon as we use up the current loaves we have.

  4. Alright that does it! I have wanted to make GOOD bread for years. I haven't even had success with a breadmaker! Every time I would get so excited and then blah...disappointment for dinner...again. I think I'll give this one a whirl. I can always give it to the chickens if it's a flop...they might be done with the last brick loaf by now...
