So I was reading one of your lovely blogs, and I saw my blog on the side bar, and the little caption under the last post title said it had been two weeks since my last post! YIKES! That is a record for this little blog of mine, and I apologize for leaving anyone hanging. :)
So what have I been up to?
Well, so far I am actually having a fruitful Lent! It's quite shocking really... I never have a good Lent! I haven't done everything on my list, but for the most part, I am pleased with my progress.
Being off the computer during the day while the girls are awake has been so good for me. I was wasting SO. MUCH. TIME. My children were being ignored and watching far too much television.
So I actually think that this is going to be a permanent thing for me. I am a much better wife and mother when I am not spending hours on the computer each day. However, this has required me to be more balanced in how I spend my time online in the evenings. I also try to limit my time on the computer in the evenings so that Bill and I can spend time together not just co existing. This has meant that I have to prioritize the time spent on the computer so that I remember to pay bills etc and not just jump to the fun stuff like reading all of your blogs!
So I am starting to find my balance in the evenings, and I am feeling like my life is more balanced! There have even been a couple nights when I haven't gotten on the computer at all, and I didn't mind! Crazy!
The only disclaimer I have to add is that if I needed a recipe or a tidbit of information, I allow myself to use my iphone to look it up. This alone has made the computer fasting possible. :)
Limiting my iphone apps usage has been fairly successful, and I am trying not to use it as a time filler. I was finding myself messing around on it just to pass the time when I could have been doing so many other things. However, I haven't been as strict about it as I have been with the computer.
I have also successfully given up sweets! It has been so much more difficult than I thought, but I have only messed up once in an absent minded moment. HOWEVER, I have allowed myself to eat cool whip on fruit and indulge in the occasional Java chip frappacinos from Starbucks... :) And if I am awake at 12:00 am on Sunday, which has purposely occurred on a few separate occasions, cookies or ice cream are in my mouth! ;)
As for the Consecration to Jesus through Mary, it is going beautifully so far! Today is day 19/33, and I am really enjoying it! Marian theology is stunningly beautiful, and I highly recommend the Consecration to anyone looking to deepen their spiritual life. It honestly hasn't been that difficult or time consuming.
Since I have given up computer during the day, my morning computer time has been replaced by prayer and spiritual reading time. I finished True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort, and it is such an amazing book! I really do want to get going on reading You Can Become A Saint by Mary Ann Budnik, and I need to get going on that since Easter actually seems within reach! :)
Lastly, the Lenten change that I have made that I am most pleased with is that I have prayed the rosary every day since Ash Wednesday! I am loving it, and while I have gone through daily rosary spurts in the past, I almost always stop after two weeks, and the times that I have managed to keep going, I had to force myself to do it after a week or two. This time, I haven't experienced that begrudging feeling! It has been quite freeing, and perhaps the struggle will rear its ugly head after Lent is over, but I am determined to keep going.
My iRosary app has made it easy for me, and I really do love it!
Anyway, prayer buddy, I am feeling your prayers, and I have no doubt they are helping me persevere this Lent!! THANK YOU!!
Megan :)
(Photobucket ate my signature for the time being so this will have to do for now)
This is Awesome! I am alSo so glad I gave up computer / phone when my kids are awake. I am seeing the benefits already!
ReplyDeleteI am also loving time away from the Internet while the boys are awake and plan on keeping that around after lent! I was way too attached to my iPod.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that I gave up the tv/computer/facebook/iphone when Bella is awake. It has allowed me to have so much more fun with her. She is into everything these days, so it was kinda necessary!!
ReplyDeleteAwe Megan I have missed you posting! Glad you posted!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you've been! :) Glad to "hear" from you! LOVE that things are going so well for you this Lent! I am doing better than usual for the most part, but still not good enough! You're inspiring me! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you updated about the consecration! I'm so impressed. I gave up my evening TV, and that just hasn't been going well lately! Oops! You're such an inspiration! :)

ReplyDeleteOh man, I may need to try that whole giving up the computer while kids are awake thing. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back!!!
Is it possible to be spiritually jealous of someone? Lol. And just last night I, alas, wasted too much time online. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI've done that myself...welcome back to the blogosphere! Interested in a meme? http://realmetanoia.blogspot.com/2011/04/tagged-by-messenger-why-do-i-love-jesus.html
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I love the idea of a rosary ap. I have been thinking lately what example I am setting for my children. I want them to see me reading books for pleasure for myself and praying. Not just watching hgtv!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you mentioned reading his book... I keep hearing more and more about St. Louis de Montfort. I need to pick up that book! I"d love for you to blog about your dedication to Jesus through Mary!!!
