worrisome events

Lately, I have been working hard trying not to worry about the future of our country.

Recently, this article at Creative Minority Report made my head start spinning. I have been aware that we as a country are going to run ourselves into the ground if we don't do something about our spending habits. However, this article freaked me out, and the comments made me feel the urge to move to the country, dig a well, buy three cows, a pig, and five chickens...

Then, with the news about the death of Usama (did anyone else think it was spelled Osama??) bin Laden, my first reaction was the farthest thing from joy and relief. I was honestly unsettled by the people gathering outside the White House chanting, "USA, USA, USA!"

I was bothered by the celebration over his death. We started watching the coverage on Fox News, and Geraldo Rivera was practically giddy with joy over the news. I had to change to a different network.

Then, my next overwhelming feeling was fear of retaliation. I know that our country would be the target of terrorist plots regardless, but I can't help but feel like this event is only going to add fuel to the fire.

So I have been praying for peace in my heart and in the world, and the following Bible verse pretty much sums up my newly adopted mindset.

"So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:34).

  1. I know how you feel. And when I speak to young atheists on my blog, I get even more depressed, ha ha. BUT then I remember that we are all in need of great mercy. I think of Jesus looking upon us all with great love and great pity. Surely He must know what train wrecks we all are, and how we need Him. We humans sure can mess things up! I am just so glad that Jesus has overcome the world. If he were not in charge, there would be no hope. But because he is in charge, there is hope everywhere and light all around us! Thank God I'm a Christian!!

Okay, I think I could ramble on but I will stop.

I love that quote from Matthew.

  2. I don't like the celebrating. The whole thing is SAD. However, I don't like to worry either. There will always be those that predict doom and gloom. I'm not saying that their claims are without merit - it just always seems like we resourceful Americans find our way out of most pickles. And I sure hope with the help of God's grace that we continue to do so! Lord have mercy!

  3. Oh, I couldn't sleep after I read that article! I was freaking out.

I had no idea his name is spelled with a U! I'm honestly not sure how I feel about his death, but I know I'm going to pray for his soul. Lord have mercy on us all.

  4. I am happy that such evil is gone from the world...but I wish it had been eradicated via conversion, not like this. I don't rejoice in his death, but I rejoice that it may hopefully lead to the dissolution and defeat of some of these terrorist groups. It is a fine line.

  5. I don't like the celebrating either. Also, my second thought upon hearing the news was wondering about retaliation, so I have just been praying for his soul.

  6. Can I highly highly highly recommend Crash Proof 2.0 by Peter Schiff? That book changed our perspective on so many things. I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Yes, we're in trouble. But I don't think we have to worry about it, Danya, or ignore it either. It's very disconcerting as you learn what's going on, but once you take steps to prepare yourself, then you can stop worrying and relax. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst!

Judge Andrew Napolitano- a devout Catholic- always makes me think outside the box- and had very interesting things to say regarding Usama: http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/4673555/usama-and-us/

Great post, Megan! Way to get the conversation rolling!

  7. BTW, as far as Usama vs. Osama… remember that Arabic is written with a different alphabet, so everything is "translated" phonetically, thus the multiple options for spelling.

  11. My DH has been saying what it is that article for years now- Good grief! Prayer- lots of prayers!

I could not agree with you more, the celebrating disgusted me. I was actually shocked on the people that were celebrating as well. I held them in such high regard and they were celebrating as if Roe vs Wade got overturned! It made me sad.

  12. I'm with Hebrews. I think people were celebrating the eradication of an evil rather than the death of a human person. It's been 10 years and thousands of deaths at the hands of bin laden. He lived by the sword...conversion would have been nice but I don't think it was on the horizon. Retaliation is probably a valid concern, but what was the alternative? Allowing him to remain free to commit more terror attacks? Either way we have terror attacks! Just my 2 cents.
